Bagging Your Limit
So, how should our 21st century job hunters increase their odds of a successful hunt? First, post resumes in many places. If privacy is a concern, pay attention to the privacy options. If you do post and later find a job, inform your new employer that your resume is posted in many places so there won't be any suspicions if the employer surfs into it or gets calls about it from recruiting companies, who frequently peruse online resumes.
The Minnesota Job Bankis a good place to find many local jobs. The state's Department of Jobs and Training coordinates the site, and anyone can register and post a resume (registering is not necessary to search job listings.)
The Job Bank is much less well known than nationally advertised sites. It seems to have fewer job listings than many of these other sites, but I've received many employer inquiries from the Job Bank.
Bear in mind that the Internet simply makes job hunting easier. It won't make up for a poor cover letter, a jumbled resume, or lack of skills and experience. It's still necessary to stand out from other applicants in a positive way, because cyberspace rejection is no less painful than being rebuffed on Planet Earth.
